Council of the Presidents of Public Research Institutions (CoPER)
The Presidents of all the main national research institutions in Italy are members of the CoPER.
Working groups
To support the work of the President council, a number of working groups can be constituted.
Functions
Supporting
CoPER task is to support the Government in promoting and sustaining the research sector in Italy. This includes streamlining and relaunch research activities, making them efficient and coherent with the national strategic plans. CoPER works in close contact with the Government to ensure that strategic research is adequately supported and funded.
Proposing
It is also responsible for advancing proposals for the programming and planning of activities across various institutions, as well as for the drafting, updating, and implementation of the National Research Plan (PNR). This helps all the relevant institutions and government bodies to allocate resources in the most efficient way.
Monitoring
CoPER also has the duty of monitoring the application of the European Charter and Code for Researchers, making sure that the duties and the rights are properly established in the regulations and that the principles of the Charter are fully respected, in order to create an open and favorable research environment.
